Just over a year ago I published a post to help guys fix a major style bugaboo: floppy collars. That post highlighted a product known as Fashion Anchors, which are adhesive circular tabs that you stick wherever you want to hold something tight. Today, I present a new option that, while perhaps a bit more limited in its application, I like even better.
Wurkin Stiffs Power Stays
For the last year, I’ve been using Wurkin Stiff Power Stays. These are magnetic collar stays that are held tight via a magnet that is placed on the inside of (underneath) your shirt. You simply insert the magnetic stay into the slot in your collar where your plastic collar stays would usually go, then place the magnet wherever you want your collar point to stay. The magnet attaches to the magnetic stay and holds your collar firmly in place.
You can get two Power Stays and magnets for $20.00 or six stays and magnets for $40.00 on their website. They come in 2-inch, 2.5-inch, or 2.75-inch sizes, or you can buy an assortment of those sizes. One of the cool things, beyond the fact that they work really well is that, as long as you don’t lose the magnets, they’ll last forever. With Fashion Anchors, you have to throw them away after one use.
Stiff-N-Stays
For 2019, Wurkin Stiffs is unveiling a new version of a product that I’m excited to try: the Stiff-N-Stay, a plastic magnetic collar stay. These are similar to the Power Stays, but made of plastic and having a magnet embedded near the tip. They function in the same manner as the Power Stays, but promise more flexibility. Stiff-N-Stays are offered in a four-pack of 2-inch and 2.5-inch sizes, along with magnets, for just under $15.00. Give them shot and let me know what you think. They look like winners to me.
To be sure, neither the Power Stays nor the Stiff-N-Stays will work if you lose the magnets. Still, I’ve used my Power Stays for almost a full year and have yet to have a problem. You do have to remember to take them out of your shirt after each use, as the magnets could get lost during the laundering process. That said, I’ve found the magnets to be very strong and functional. They don’t simply fall off. If you lose one, it will likely be because you forgot to take it out. And that’s on you.
Stick-N-Stays
One limitation of the the Power Stays (and Stiff-N-Stays) is that they cannot be used with polo shirts or other shirts that don’t have a collar slit. Wurkin Stiffs seems to have remedied that issue with its Stick-N-Stays (not to be confused with the Stiff-N-Stays). The Stick-N-Stays are metal tabs that have an adhesive surface that allows them to hold the collar of your polo in place. I’ve not used these yet, but they seem to function similarly to the Fashion Anchors; the advantage is that they’re reusable, so you don’t have to keep purchasing new packs.
So, if you’re looking to put an end to floppy collars, I encourage you to check out Wurkin Stiffs products. In addition to collar stays, they also sell dopp bags, wallets (they have cool-looking minimalist wallet for those, like me, who have an Anti-Costanza position on wallets), tie bars, and gift packages.
As noted before, I don’t get anything in exchange for these posts. I promote products that I’ve found to be valuable. When it comes to Wurkin Stiffs, I’ve been very pleased with my purchases so far and expect there will be more to come. Enjoy and Godspeed.
