Life will almost never go according to plan. When plans get disrupted, it’s easy to make excuses and resign yourself to failure. It’s much harder to adapt and persevere. But, when things fall apart, those who are able to adapt and persist often succeed at a much higher level than if things had gone according to plan. Winners find a way, losers find an excuse. In fact, chaotic circumstances are often the best recipe to win big.

Finding your next move in life often leaves us confused. Either we get paralyzed by analyzing things over and over, or we are too busy to figure out what to do. The natural world operates according to certain rules. If you pay attention, you can glean insights that apply in many different contexts. As I reflected on a recent hunting trip, it became clear to me that we have to stop moving to hear, but that we sometimes we have to move to win. The key is to understand which to apply at the moment.
